Moonraker James Bond magazine

science fiction or science fact - 100 page special

MI6 Confidential is proud to announce our latest special publication: a limited-run 100-page perfect bound issue of the magazine taking a deep dive into one particular facet of the franchise. In an era when visual effects were decades away from a digital revolution, Moonraker emerged as one of the series most visually ambitious. It's visuals remained rooted in the mastery of practical effects, model work, and pioneering techniques that have since acquired a nostalgic patina of cinematic artistry.

For this, our seventh MI6 Confidential special, collector Thomas Nixdorf has kindly opened his archive of rare behind the scenes Moonraker photography, production concepts, and art. The majority of the unpublished photos presented herein are drawn from the original 1978/79 negatives. All of our stunning Special Edition magazines have emphasised selecting rarer photos from our archives or from kind contributors, and this year we are taking that to the natural next step. For the first time, we have opted to present this amazing material in a landscape format to maximise the aspect ratio of the available imagery.

140+ page Sean Connery James Bond magazine

sean connery - a james bond journey

MI6 Confidential is proud to announce our latest special publication: a limited-run 140-page perfect bound issue of the magazine taking a deep dive into one particular facet of the franchise. The 2022 edition celebrates the man who made Bond a screen icon, Sean Connery. Matthew Field and Ajay Chowdhury chart his lengthy career and association with 007, Connery rise to meteoric heights of fame, and his wrestling to take gain and maintain creative control of the character.

Say authors Field and Chowdhury of their impressive tribute to Connery, "By reading and digesting hundreds of print and broadcast interviews, conducted with Connery over the past 60 years, we rediscovered the actor and his craft. We came to appreciate the man beneath the image as well as the treasure and the trials he endured. The self-taught actor paid great attention to the scripts, approached his portrayal with diligence and had valuable opinions on who James Bond is."

Licence To Kill - Timothy Dalton James Bond magazine

john glen's ultimate bond - 100 page special

In 2017, after ten years of service, MI6 Confidential introduced a new special format: a limited-run 100-page perfect bound issue of the magazine taking a deep dive into one particular facet of the franchise. The fifth release hands the microphone back to long-serving Bond director, John Glen taking a look back at his ultimate film as helmsman, Licence To Kill.

New Signed Editions
In January John Glen completed an exclusive signing session with MI6 Confidential to autograph a limited number of his special magazine. Readers of MI6 Confidential can secure their copies today by selecting the 'limited signed copy' button below. Prices include tracked shipping to your door.

Other directors came and went from the franchise in the blink of an eye, but Glen earned his place as one of the most trusted, influential and creative confidants to producer Alber R. 'Cubby' Broccoli. In this special issue of MI6 Confidential magazine, we invited the director to reminisce on his final Bond film. To date he has helmed the greatest number of Bond pictures, and whilst Licence To Kill was one of the least commercially successful Bonds, it is undergoing something of a renaissance and reassessment with enthusiasts. Its simple story of revenge appealed to star, Timothy Dalton, and is – in a sense – timeless. Dalton was able to influence some more of the characterisation, and even costuming, helping to make him happier and more assured in the role.

Octopussy signed James Bond magazine

john glen director's diary - 100 page special

In 2017, after ten years of service, MI6 Confidential introduced a new special format: a limited-run 100-page perfect bound issue of the magazine taking a deep dive into one particular facet of the franchise. The fourth release hands the microphone to long-serving Bond director, John Glen taking a look back at his favourite film as helmsman, Octopussy.

The idea for this issue came together as we were finishing work on Peter Lamont's Live And Let Die portfolio. We approached someone who had a equally profound effect on the trajectory of modern Bond. John readily agreed to work with us and we gave him free choice of the film he wished to profile. He chose Octopussy - the colourful, adventurous, flamboyant and darn-right-lucky 13th Bond outing. With help from editor Bill Koenig, John walks us through pre-production, scripting, casting and then narrates the film for us, in his famous conversational style.

peter lamont portfolio - 100 page special

In 2017, after ten years of service, MI6 Confidential introduced a new special format: a limited-run 100-page perfect bound issue of the magazine taking a deep dive into one particular facet of the franchise. The third release is once again by Peter Lamont, taking a look back at his final film as production designer, Casino Royale.

New Signed Editions
Last month Peter Lamont completed an exclusive signing session with MI6 Confidential to autograph a limited number of his second special magazine. Readers of MI6 Confidential can secure their copies today by selecting the 'limited signed copy' button below. Prices include tracked shipping to your door.

Peter has produced an exhaustive visual history of his work on Daniel Craig's debut. On this picture Peter oversaw units on multiple continents and recounts his memories location- and studio-scouting, recalling visits to construction sites and landfills in South Africa, Germany, and Wales before settling on the Bahamas and the Czech Republic. This has produced a remarkable and rare preface, documenting the range of places that were considered for the film as the script evolved in the pre-production stages. From there Peter walks us through the film as it plays out, detailing his and his colleagues' contributions to the practical and aesthetic elements of Daniel Craig's first hand as Bond. Packed with rarely seen visual materials from Peter's own collection and the EON archives – this is a fitting send-off for one of 007's longest serving crew-members.

James Bond magazine

remembering roger moore - 100 page special

In 2017, after ten years of service, MI6 Confidential introduced a new special format: a limited-run 100-page issue of the magazine taking a deep dive into one particular facet of the franchise, rather than the smorgasbord of filmic, literary, comic and gaming features fans have come to expect from a standard issue. The second release is co-authored by Matthew Field and Ajay Chowdhury whose "Some Kind of Hero" is the 21st century's modern Bond bible.

Rather than recounting the production history of Sir Roger's epic seven film run as 007 the authors instead turned the narrative over to Moore's on-screen co-stars. The actor, philanthropist and true gentleman touched the lives of many — and many of his Bond co-stars who have said little or nothing about their work on the EON films since took this opportunity to regale Field and Chowdhury with some remarkable stories about Sir Roger Moore.

No two stories are alike but each adds to a picture of a warmhearted man, a consummate professional, who never took himself too seriously. More than 60 of Moore's colleagues share memories in this new issue, including: Christopher Walken, Yaphet Kotto, Tanya Roberts, Britt Ekland, Lois Chiles, Gloria Hendry, Julian Glover, Charles Dance, Steven Berkoff, and Vijay Amritraj.

The first special issue was contributed by art department veteran Peter Lamont.

Peter Lamont spent more the 40 years working in art departments of the James Bond films. From draughtsman to production designer; from Goldfinger to Casino Royale, Peter was on every picture but one. One of the films for which he has collected a great deal of documents and has many fond memories is Roger Moore's debut as 007, Live And Let Die.

A lot of that material could not be squeezed into his recent autobiography so Peter came to MI6 Confidential with an offer too good to refuse. In this special 100-page edition of MI6 Confidential magazine, Peter tells the story of making the film, location by location, as they appear in the film. It is lavishly illustrated with rare stills from the film, behind the scenes photographs never committed to print and notes and storyboarding from Lamont's personal collection. Let our friend and Bond veteran be your guide to the eighth official Bond adventure and Sir Roger Moore's first.

If you missed out on one of our exclusive dedicated copies of 'The Man With The Golden Eye' then don't miss picking up one of these limited, signed copies of MI6 Confidential issue #37. Designer Peter Lamont followed in some giant footsteps. Ken Adam had applied a heavy, but lavish and breathtaking, hand to the look of the early Bond films. Taking over in an era of realism, and some austerity, still allowed Lamont the opportunity to shine. In an exclusive conversation Lamont remembers his last few Bond adventures, touching on all facets of the production from conception, to recces and shooting. He shares a raft of stories, reaffirming that life on the Bond pictures was often challenging but never dull.

moonraker stickers

Moonraker took commercial tie-ins and merchandising back to the 'Bond Fever' levels of the mid-1960s. Topps, a New York City company that manufactures chewing gum, candy and collectibles, secured a license for a James Bond product line in 1979. Launched alongside the movie, Topps released a set of 99 trading cards and 22 stickers. Die-cut with red borders, one Moonraker sticker was inserted into every pack of cards. The first 5 in the sticker series are character portraits and the remaining 17 are stills from the film framed with a Moonraker title treatment. The series remained popular long after the movie had been and gone, so much so that Topps included it in their 75th anniversary set celebrating their entertainment releases.

Fresh from the archives from 1979, these are complete, original, sets of the 22 sticker series. Now shipping around the world for $5+ p&p.

'Banned' James Bond trading cards

007's "banned" trading cards

In 1997, Daleon Enterprises took out a licence with EON Productions to produce a reproduction set of the very first James Bond trading cards. The cards had previously caused quite a controversy in the UK because of the abundance of photos depicting scantily-clad Bond girls deemed unsuitable for children. Thus, the company recalled the original sets and substituted more benign photos. The Daleon set reproduced the original "banned" set of cards exactly as they appeared in 1964. Additionally, the set contained bonus cards detailing the controversy that occurred when they were originally released. This limited edition reproduction set is uniquely packaged in a plastic replica of an attache case! Read More >

Now MI6 Confidential has access to a very limited number of these rare reproduction sets from 1997, which were limited editions. They are available for $42.95 (free postage in USA/ $10 postage outside USA) whilst stocks last.
